maddieyaki
The name maddieyaki comes from the Japanese suffix yaki (ē¼ć) meaning cooked over fire. The same yaki that is in yakisoba and taiyaki is also used to indicate pottery from different regions (e.g. Karatsu-yaki, Arita-yaki).

about the artist
Iām a Cambodian-American artist born and raised in California. My introduction to pottery was through a ceramics class at my local high school, but it was my time in Japan where I truly fell in love with pottery. I spent approximately 9 months in a small coastal pottery town in Japan studying and learning pottery, focusing on the local style of the pottery town I lived in. I also spent time in my motherland, Cambodia, learning more about traditional Cambodian pottery styles, including using a kick wheel, shaping and carving Cambodian motifs. I felt a deeper connection to my culture and homeland while learning from local pottery masters and nurturing my craft.
I hope you enjoy my pottery!
